Victra

Victra

Victra is my first dog, ever, and I am so grateful to her for opening up this crazy world of dogs, dog sports and dog breeding to me, and connecting me with wonderful friends, mentors, and puppy families along the way.

She's taught me so much about dog training, breed standard, structure and conformation, and she's the quintessential velcro dog who is always down for whatever we want to do. She's so happy as long as she's with her family.

We've lived in two different countries, four different cities, travelled coast to coast with her in our campervan, living full-time in it for a year. She's waded in the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, Lake Ontario, Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, gone to the deserts of California and Nevada, ran down ski hill while we snowboarded alongside her. Through it all, her adaptability has never ceased to amaze me. Not only is she the ultimate adventure dog but she's also the ultimate laze around and do nothing dog, and she has meshed so perfectly well with the extremes of our family.

Our lives are a bit more sedentary now, but she blessed us with seven beautiful puppies in 2023, and my breeding program will continue her lineage, attempting to continue building on what makes her such a wonderful family companion while improving the Eurasier breed's structure, health, and temperament.

Temperament

Tell me about Victra!

Victra is a happy, playful, and tolerant pup. She is smart but not clever, so she picks up on patterns and concepts quickly, but not to the extent that she’ll outfox you or cause mischief. She does, however, occasionally pull a “Spitz” and choose to ignore, despite knowing exactly what you are asking for. She is highly adaptable and loves doing anything with her family, whether it's lounging around at home, or going on 20km+ hikes.

How is Victra with other dogs?

I am guilty of oversocializing Victra as a puppy, and attended too many puppy socials and arranged too many doggy playdates. In hindsight, this oversocialization has made her a little too eager to greet and play with other dogs. She gets along fabulously with other neutral dogs, but doesn't love off-leash dogs that run up to her or barks at her. She doesn't react, but it's obvious from her body language that it can be overwhelming.

She loves dogs that match her energy level and as she's aged, she's mellowed out a lot and her play stamina has been reduced so Maze's persistent puppy energy occasionally does annoy her. She's great at co-existing peacefully with other neutral dogs.

How is Victra with people and children?

Victra is strongly bonded to her family and loves being near her people. As a young puppy, she didn’t have time for snuggles and cuddles, but as she’s matured, she’s realized that humans give really great butt and neck scritches. She’ll sit right in front of you when she wants her butt scratched, giving you a baleful look if you stop before she’s had enough.

How is Victra at home?

Victra has been an incredibly easy (and easy-going) dog from the moment we brought her home three years ago. She slept through her very first night in a new home, and rarely woke us in the middle of the night. She was practically potty-trained at eight weeks and had minimal accidents in the house. As an adult, she’s perfectly content laying around the house while her human works from home, though she does love her routines and eagerly awaits her daily walks. She respects boundaries and doesn’t eat what she’s not supposed to or go where she’s not supposed to.

Structure

From a physical perspective, Victra's head and expression are her strongest assets. While her eyes are a little on the lighter side, her head matches the remainder of the description for the head in the breed standard well.

The main improvements we would be seeking in future generations would be to level out the topline, increase the angulation in her rear, and deepen the chest. She is also fairly fine-boned, so ideally we would pair her with a sturdier male.
